Sinagoga Ner Tamid del Sud (The Eternal Light of South Italy) is located in the “toe” of the Italian “ boot.”
We are the first and only active synagogue in Calabria (south Italy) in 500 years since Inquisition times
- We are the first and only recognized Reconstructionist synagogue in Italy.
- We are the first and only Italian synagogue dedicated to welcoming “b’nei anusim” to reclaim their lost Jewish roots.
- We celebrate diversity, cultural differences, interfaith and non-traditional families. We extend the hand of Jewish welcome to a unique group of Jews who long to embrace Jewish traditions that were nearly destroyed by the Inquisition that extended from Spain to southern Italy.

Expand our Youth and Adult education programs
Provide Holiday and festival services like Sukkot, Chanukah and the “Secret” Passover Seder
Continue to offer our innovative Shabbat At Table event to teach our returning Jewish families how to make Shabbat in their own homes.
Teach and support Italians who want to make formal conversion by bringing European rabbis to join our Bet Din candidate conversations and supporting our returning “anusim” as they begin their Jewish life.
Work against the rise of anti-semitism as we Involve our local community in unique Social Justice projects and synagogue presentations so that local families can learn about and understand Jewish traditions.
